I’m writing a review regarding a current store manager who’s work ethic is awful and has now I believe become barbaric.
Store: Swansea drive thru
Enterprise.
When Alison took the manager position in this store all staff were excited as she is known to have 10+ years work experience at Costa Coffee. When she first came to the store she seemed lovely and always said that she was going to “save the store”
As my pervious manager “Jared” who I believe was an amazing manager, yet she would talk badly about him and critique his management style. First impressions were not good as she’d already began talking ill of our previous manager.
I was under her management for no longer than 3 months before I left for uni and in this time the store was absolutely falling apart. I have worked with many managers in Costa but none as bad as this.
Firstly for most of the time I worked in this store it was rated top 3 busiest stores in the area or south wales. She immediately cut hours leaving only 2 people to close the store from 8-10:30 which is very difficult and stressful for a lot of staff. Most days there would only be 6 people working the whole day where as other drive thru’s would have up to 10 staff working. Yet I noticed that when her or her daughter was working she would have a lot more people on shift, which I didn’t think was fair and for other employees too.

Shift runners:
During the time I worked there, there were 2 shift runners in particular that I found Alison didn’t favour. Both shift runners worked for the company for 5+ years and were very experienced.
The first would always do extra hours and I feel pulled his weight while working. Alison didn’t like how confident he was on shift and would talk down to him and would be extremely mean to him. She talked about him badly to me behind his back and other staff which I don’t think is a very appropriate thing for a manager to do. Eventually she bullied him so bad and created such a toxic environment where he decided to step down and transfer to a different store.
Secondly another Shift runner who was the most experienced person I think I’ve worked with, she would always go the extra mile and work super hard and I felt got no praise from Alison or a Thank you. Alison was quite obviously threatened by this member of staff where as it got so bad that she began an investigation about her for something. The situation got so toxic that this member of staff decided she needed to leave the store immediately. I’m not too sure about every detail but I know that it’s no one’s fault but Alison’s!
Anonymous:
“I rang up the store once because I was being sick at home and was too ill to come in and work. Alison screamed at me on the phone basically saying I was lying and forced me to come into work and said that me being sick wasn’t a good enough reason not to come in”.
A member of staff was working on a 16 hour contract but decided he wanted more hours. Alison gave him over 40hours a week and when he tried explaining he couldn’t do all these shifts Alison basically made him feel he had to and he would get in trouble if he wasn’t to show up for his shifts.
He then handed in his notice. The same day Alison decided to talk about him unkindly on the headset to a colleague, calling him useless and lazy but she didn’t know he had a headset on as well and listened to the whole conversation.
A member of staff tried to explain these problems to our area manager and wanted to keep it anonymous because she was afraid of Alison. The area manager proceeded to tell Alison who complained and what about. Alison called this staff member for a chat and said something along the lines of:
“I’m here to deal with fraud and missing money. Not petty arguments children working her have with their managers”
She completely disrespects all of her teams feelings and she creates a harmful environment.
Another shift runner who recently handed their notice in (due to Alison’s behaviour) hasn’t told anyone why she’s left, but Alison has!
Alison has told different staff working that she’s left because she’s started acting strange after taking her new prescribed medicine. Which she exclaims are anti depressants and that she’s depressed. So now I know more about this colleague’s personal life more than I would’ve liked too and I’m sure she would’ve liked to as well! Not only have I not worked there for Months yet I’m still hearing all these stories about different staff members and the main problem surrounding these problems are Alison!
Having so many colleagues move from this store, there aren’t many experienced/trained members of staff which makes the Christmas season extremely difficult to handle. Alison’s store are struggling with staff and she is begging other stores to help. The first shift runner I talked about at the beginning who is now a Barista was asked by Alison to come from his store to close enterprise (as a Barista) and was given keys by Alison and our area manager approved of this. After Alison treated him so badly and ran him out the store (as well as others) I just don’t know how this can be aloud and how behaviour like this is just accepted by higher ups. I believe this has gone too far now and it needs to be sorted.
There are so many stories about her management and how toxic it has become for everyone l. It is paramount that something is done here if not I will take things further.

I have just travelled from Hilton to Burton Eastern Avenue Costa. It says they are open until 9pm yet they were closed at 5.30pm. Was told by staff recently they were closing at 7.30pm, is it now 5.30pm. What's happening, are the staff trying to close it down.

I visited Costa Coffee at 10.00am Tuesday morning, in Otley, West Yorkshire. There were 2 people working a woman and man. Hannah and Kal. Both were absolutely amazing! Both very polite took time to talk and make you feel like it was worth coming! Both were very well mannered and chatty but not too chatty where you feel awkward. Thank you ever so much for being so lovely and kind especially with my Son. Well worth the visit!

Costa coffee in Borehamwood Boulevard. Unfortunately, has to host the loudest most aggressive manager ever! Went for a quiet coffee yesterday morning and had to endure the shouting from the manager there, who seemed hell bent on shouting every order, even though she had a full team of people less than foot away from her! She then took to going around the Costa shouting and smoking her vape!!!! Then was so obsessed with closing the door, decided to swear 'keep the f...g door closed!' to us all within ear shot! Disgusting behaviour. When she went on her break, the whole place calmed down. Her poor staff team, who seemed extremely competent and worked very hard in a tense environment, deserve a medal. Apparently she has only been there a week! Costa, please, for your staffs sake, change the manager, and find someone with the proper customer care skills who can encourage the staff team and act with a professional attitude. Dreadful! 😡

Received a £100 parking fine for having 2 coffees in the venue. Was never highlighted to the device for number plate. There had been 3 of us who received the same fine Costa need to take responsibility for this . If the Costa don't help out. Costa will never be used again by our charity. Costa it disgusting
